Winner of17th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition

Jiacheng Xiong, acclaimed for performances exhibiting "technical mastery that eschews overt ostentation" and "grace and ease" (Des Moines Symphony debut review), began piano studies in Fujian, China, at age three. He relocated to the United States at twelve to pursue intensive musical training.

Xiong has garnered accolades at the world's most prestigious piano competitions, including the 17th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition (Israeli Commission Piece Prize), Van Cliburn International Competition, Queen Elisabeth Competition, and Bösendorfer International Piano Competition (Finalist).

Additional significant prizes include 2nd at the Kulangsu International Piano Competition (2018), Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists, and Viseu International Piano Competition, alongside 1st prizes at the Korea International Piano Competition for Young Pianists (2013) and National Youth Piano Competition, Xiamen. He was also the third-prize winner at the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation's New York International Piano Competition in 2016.

Xiong maintains a deep connection with the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS), holding fellowships for nine consecutive years (including the 2024 New Horizons Fellowship). Highlights include:

  • Winning the 2024 AMFS Piano Concerto Competition, performing Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra.

  • Featuring in the AMFS Rachmaninoff Series and Prokofiev Series (2022, Sonata No. 8).

  • Performing in Michael Klein Hall during the 75th Anniversary season alongside artists including Yoheved Kaplinsky, Arie Vardi, Anton Nel, Hung-Kuan Chen, and Greg Anderson.

  • A 2013 performance broadcast on NPR's From the Top.

His performances resonate internationally at venues such as Carnegie Hall (NYC), Cortot Hall (Paris), Hangzhou Grand Theater (China), and The Temple for Performing Arts (Des Moines), including Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Des Moines Symphony conducted by Maestro Joseph Giunta, at Des Moines Civic Center.

He toured nationally with Curtis on Tour (2018, Bernstein Centenary) and recorded Julius Eastman for the Curtis Studio centenary album (2024).

Xiong holds a Diploma from the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing (Prof. Aiping Jin, 2011), a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music (Paul G. Mehlin Scholarship, Prof. Robert McDonald, 2020), and a Master of Music from The Juilliard School (Prof. Yoheved Kaplinsky, 2022).
