Biography

An internationally recognized young pianist known for his expressive authority and international performance presence.

Hechao Yang is a talented young pianist who has gained international recognition through an extensive performance footprint across China, Italy, Canada, Japan, Germany, and the United States. He previously studied in China under the guidance of Professor Zhaoyi Dan and is currently a second-year undergraduate student at The Juilliard School, where he studies with Professor Yoheved Kaplinsky. Hechao has been a laureate of numerous national and international piano competitions, including the Silver Prize at the 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, the Gold Prize at the 20th International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia, and First Place at the 11th Shenzhen Piano Open Competition. In 2024, he won Juilliard’s Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 Competition as a freshman, which led to a performance with the Juilliard Orchestra under the direction of Jeffrey Milarsky at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center. Over the years, Hechao Yang has been highly active in solo recitals and orchestral performances, collaborating with ensembles such as the Virtuosi Brunensis Orchestra, the Florence Luigi Cherubini Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and the Prima Vista String Quartet of Poland. He has also worked with distinguished conductors including Uri Segal, Daye Lin, and Paolo Ponziano Ciardi, continually enriching his artistic experience on the international stage. His performances have received widespread acclaim for their musical depth and expressive authority. Hechao was selected for the Elite Talent Development Program of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music. He is also a New World International Music Young Artist and a signed young artist of the Futian Symphony Orchestra.
